Liantang to create Hong Kong-style street and build commercial center
As the backyard of eastern Luohu, the Liantang area, nestled against Wutong Mountain and adjacent to Xianhu Botanical Garden, boasts abundant natural resources.
Enhancing Liantang's Connectivity for Hong Kong Residents
Liantang Port has seen peak daily traffic surpass 100,000 passengers, with an average of over 60,000 daily, well beyond its original design capacity of 30,000. Since opening to passenger traffic over a year ago, the port has repeatedly set new records, mainly serving travelers from Hong Kong.
Since last year, the integration of Shenzhen and Hong Kong consumption has emerged as a bright spot, with more Hong Kong residents choosing to shop and relax in the area. A Liantang Street official stated, "In the future, we will leverage the port's advantage in passenger flow to foster Shenzhen-Hong Kong integration, develop commercial centers, and establish star-rated hotels and facilities that benefit residents on both sides."
Incorporating Trade into Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Commerce Development Zone
Official data shows that Liantang Port's designed capacity was 30,000 passengers and 17,850 vehicles per day. However, current peak passenger flow has exceeded 100,000, with a daily average of over 60,000. Following the full resumption of Shenzhen-Hong Kong port traffic in 2023, cross-border consumption has become a key trend, with Luohu being one of the most frequented areas for Hong Kong travelers.
As part of Luohu District’s key initiatives, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Commerce Development Zone is being actively advanced, capitalizing on the three ports (Luohu, Wenjindu, and Liantang) to connect with the Hong Kong Northern Metropolis. The plan aims to deepen collaboration with Hong Kong’s commercial and industrial zones.
Upgrading Tourism and Leisure: Creating a Hong Kong-Style Street and Developing Nighttime Economy
To enhance Liantang’s future growth, efforts will focus on transforming low-efficiency areas around the port, introducing cultural and tourism elements. Plans are underway to develop a Hong Kong-style street district in the Xiling community, featuring renovated village houses for cafés, restaurants, and hostels, aiming to foster a vibrant nighttime economy.
In collaboration with nearby attractions like Wutong Mountain and Xianhu Botanical Garden, the area will host cultural and tourism events, such as concerts, traditional lion dances, and cycling routes along the river.
Boosting Commercial Services: Attracting Major Food and Entertainment Enterprises
Liantang Port officially began operations in 2020 and opened passenger services in February 2023, quickly surpassing its initial design capacity. With the steady growth in cross-border traffic, Liantang Street plans to utilize this momentum to build commercial centers, star-rated hotels, and other facilities to serve the needs of travelers. Large dining and entertainment enterprises are set to be introduced in key areas.
Creating a Harmonious Living Environment: Implementing Cross-Border Retirement and Education Services
As of August 2024, Liantang Street is home to nearly 150,000 residents, including 5,400 Hong Kong citizens. By integrating healthcare, education, and ecological resources, Liantang aims to establish cross-border elderly care services and create support spaces for Hong Kong residents, including temporary rest areas for cross-border children near the port.
