Cantonese opera: A cultural pillar of the Greater Bay Area
The Shenzhen Cantonese Opera Troupe and some Hong Kong opera troupes and performers jointly staged concerts on Aug. 12 and Aug. 13 in Luohu.
The concerts aimed to promote exchanges among performing artists between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. They were a highlight of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Culture Month, an initiative spearheaded by the Luohu district government that runs from mid-July through August.
Recognized as a world intangible cultural heritage of south China, Cantonese opera stands as a shared cultural foundation for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, resonating with a wide audience.
In recent years, Luohu has attached great importance to the preservation and development of the opera. The district has hosted the Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen) Cantonese Opera Week, the Shenzhen Cantonese Opera Week and other characteristic cultural events related to the time-honored opera. These events have significantly contributed to the cultivation of the shared south China culture rooted in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
