Shenzhen state-owned enterprises unlock new tech possibilities
Shenzhen is unlocking new technological possibilities as its state-owned enterprises (SOEs) introduce 100 innovation-driven application scenarios. On Tuesday, the city hosted a launch and signing ceremony at Shenzhen Airport Transportation Center, where 28 municipal SOEs partnered with over 40 technology companies. The event saw the signing of 20 key application scenarios and the unveiling of 30 new ones, reinforcing Shenzhen’s commitment to cutting-edge innovation.
This initiative aims to establish 100 real-world application scenarios as testbeds for emerging technologies and products, further solidifying Shenzhen’s status as a global innovation hub.
The event showcased 30 artificial intelligence application scenarios introduced by 15 municipal SOEs, spanning sectors such as transportation, energy, construction, and public services. Highlights include the "Airport Passenger Service Robot," "Smart Water Steward AI," "AI-Powered Safety Inspection System," and "AI Model for Scientific Childcare."
Additionally, municipal SOEs collaborated with small and medium-sized technology firms to advance projects in railway rapid detection modules, AI-based equipment fault prediction, smart inspection robots for water facilities, and AI-driven traffic flow prediction, among other cutting-edge applications.
Shenzhen continues to leverage the scale, industry integration, and application potential of SOEs to drive innovation. Through a comprehensive ecosystem of tech parks, financial services, talent development, and application platforms, the city has successfully launched key digital transformation projects, including the Future Airport, Digital Metro, Smart Public Transport, Smart Gas, and Smart Water Management.
Looking ahead, Shenzhen will expand its innovation landscape by establishing 100 new application scenarios in areas such as chip development and embodied AI, transforming the entire SOE system into a large-scale testing ground for new technologies.
By the end of 2024, Shenzhen's SOEs had developed and operated 70 technology parks covering 23.55 million square meters, offering high-quality industrial space at 70% of market rates. They have also built a comprehensive financial support system encompassing technology insurance, venture capital, securities, and financial leasing, facilitating over 2.5 trillion yuan in financing for 227,000 small and medium-sized enterprises.
To reinforce its position as a global innovation powerhouse, Shenzhen will expand investment in proof-of-concept centers, pilot testing facilities, and technology transfer institutions.
With these ambitious initiatives, Shenzhen’s SOEs are set to play a pivotal role in driving technological breakthroughs, strengthening industrial ecosystems, and cementing the city’s status as China’s leading hub for innovation, talent, and business growth.
