Guangdong's cross-border e-commerce leads the nation, surpassing one-third of total trade
Guangdong announced the implementation of several new policies to simplify export procedures at a seminar on Wednesday, hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce to promote the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce pilot zones.
The measures include removing overseas warehouse registration requirements for cross-border e-commerce exporters, streamlining export documentation, and adopting an "inspect first, ship later" approach for consolidated cargo.
Additionally, a new cross-border return policy has been introduced to make product returns easier.
Guangdong remains a powerhouse in cross-border e-commerce, with its total import and export volume reaching 745.4 billion yuan in 2024, accounting for over one-third of the national total. The province now has cross-border e-commerce pilot zones in all 21 cities, with Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and eastern Guangdong emerging as major industry hubs. Leading global platforms such as Amazon, SHEIN, and Alibaba International have set up regional headquarters in Guangdong, while the province has also nurtured 15 publicly listed cross-border e-commerce companies, including Sino-Sunrise and YidaCloud.
With the newly implemented policy, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Huangpu have been designated as pilot customs zones for cross-border e-commerce returns. This allows exported retail goods to be returned across customs zones, reducing logistics costs for merchants.
As a manufacturing hub, Guangdong offers a unique advantage for cross-border e-commerce sellers in sourcing goods. This year, the province will select 10 key industrial clusters and host 100 matchmaking events to connect e-commerce businesses with suppliers.
A key highlight will be the 2025 China (Guangzhou) Cross-Border E-Commerce Trade Fair, scheduled for August 15-17. The exhibition will expand to 50,000 square meters, featuring over 50 leading and emerging e-commerce platforms, including Amazon and SHEIN, and more than 1,000 companies showcasing their products through industry alliances.
With these initiatives, Guangdong continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in cross-border e-commerce, driving innovation and growth in the industry.
